Together, Let’s Take The Stormwater Challenge!

GreenLearning invites educators, students and schools to join us in Flood:Ed and the Stormwater Challenge. The Challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create local green infrastructure that can divert as many litres of stormwater as possible safely back into the environment!

GreenLearning has set an ambitious collective goal of 300,000 litres (1,000 bathtubs!) of stormwater. With your help, we know we can get there, and at the same time, we will be making our schools and communities more resilient to the possibility of flooding and stormwater pollution. Amazing!

Stormwater Challenge Guidelines

Who Can Participate?

Any school, class, educator, eco club, student group etc can participate in the Challenge.

How Do I Participate?
GreenLearing has made participating in The Stormwater Challenge easy and fun for you and your students. We recommend taking the following steps:

STEP 1: Explore all the elements of stormwater infrastructure, uncover the risk of flooding and do any of the quick and easy spark activities designed to introduce the issues.

STEP 2: Create your own school or community Stormwater Action Plan by following a series of six engaging indoor and outdoor Planning Activities you can do with your class, school or club.

STEP 3: Here’s where the ACTION comes into play! Once you have a Stormwater Action Plan it will be easy to select and implement any of the nine Stormwater Action Projects that we have provided so that you can start diverting + conserving stormwater.

STEP 4: Last but definitely not least: Measure your impact and share your achievements with us so we can count your impact - and the litres you have diverted - toward our goal of 300,000 litres which is 1,000 bathtubs!

That’s it! You have participated in the Stormwater Challenge!

You will receive a certificate from GreenLearning acknowledging your participation in the Stormwater Challenge - and the litres of water diverted/conserved - that you can post in your classroom, office, etc to show off the contribution your students have made to protecting their school and community from the risks of flooding damage and stormwater pollution.

But, did you know that you can earn even more recognition and prizes for your class? Here’s how! Simply send us a 1 - 3 minute video or a short written submission (with pictures, quotes, etc) that answers the following questions:

We will happily feature your videos and stories on our website and in our social media channels.

And, we will work with a panel of judges to select THREE participants to receive awards for their effort! (Please note that these program prizes are limited to Canadian participants but the Challenge is open to everyone from any part of the world).
