1. Last Call on eCards-to-Copenhagen!
It is
not too late for your students to have a voice in the upcoming climate change
negotiations in Copenhagen!
Set aside some class time between now and November 23rd so that your students can create eCards with their messages about climate change. Canada's team of youth delegates—featured here
in their winning video application to UNICEF's Get Reel on Climate
Competition—will take the eCards with them to the Children's Climate Forum in Copenhagen. There, youth
from around the world will prepare a communiqué to present to world leaders at
COP 15.
This unique climate change activity, designed
primarily for Grade 9 to 11 Science, Geography and Language Arts, can take as
much or as little class time as you'd like. On the eCards website, your students can explore current data and videos,
use the ask-an-expert feature, and answer online research questions. If your
class is already up-to-speed on climate change, however, you can bypass the
research phase and jump right into creating eCards. Don't hesitate to contact us with any questions about tailoring this
activity for your students.

Offer your students this exciting opportunity to
connect with the delegates and participate in these historic negotiations. Click here to learn more
about teaching eCards-to-Copenhagen. To see the research unit on
the eCards website, choose Climate Change under the LEARN MORE menu. Time is limited! To reach
the delegates, eCards must be sent
by November 23, 2009.
2. Register for the 2009/2010 Solar Oven Challenge
Give your students an authentic and appetizing experience of
renewable energy by entering our Solar Oven Challenge.
Register for the Challenge and receive the
Teacher's Guide with solar oven construction plans.
- Build, test and bake with solar
ovens.
- Email
photos and descriptions of your students' creations to GreenLearning to enter the Challenge and be eligible to win
prizes.

your recipes and photos of your solar ovens showcased at re-energy.ca —
GreenLearning's renewable energy website.
Last year, we had entries come in from Grade 3 & 4 classes through to Grade 10 classes. Many of the older students built
solar ovens as part of the heat unit in their Science class; other students
learned about solar energy as a project in an eco-class or recycling club. Click here to see last year's projects and winning entries.
