1. View eCards from the Cape Farewell Voyage
Each student on the
September 2008 Cape Farewell Arctic voyage created an eCard about their Arctic
experience. Their eCards are now posted at ecards.greenlearning.ca. Encourage
your students to see the Arctic and climate change through the eyes (and
eCards) of the international students on this unique voyage. With your
permission, students can even send these
eCards themselves.
Cape Farewell student
Alejandra — one of 15 Canadian students on the 2008 voyage — recently presented
her Arctic experience using eCards at October's Environmental Educators
Provincial Specialist Association conference in Vancouver. Here she is at the
conference with Johan Stroman, Director of GreenLearning British Columbia.
2. Teachers Love Learning!
More than 150 teachers
have participated in GreenLearning workshops this fall. They tell us they really enjoy the workshops: in the words of one teacher, "Excellent workshops! I really got a lot of great ideas from
discussions [and the] great resources!"
You can join a workshop or
event coming to a school near you or request a workshop for your school
district. To learn more about our workshops, contact
the GreenLearning Director in your region.

3. Upcoming Events on Climate Change
Poznan, Poland will host the
United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 14) from December 1–12. A
Canadian Youth Delegation will participate in the conference. To meet these
delegates and learn about their role in Poznan, visit www.cydpoznan.ca.
A call has gone out world-wide
for people everywhere to get involved in the Global Day of Action on Climate Change. The Day of Action will be observed in Canada on December 7th. Plan an event for your school or join an event planned by
others. Learn more at the Youth for Real Climate Action website, www.ourclimate.ca.
Consider using one of these
international events as a way to get young people interested in learning more
about climate change.
For the latest information on climate
change, see Climate Change—It's
Time, a short booklet released by the Pembina Institute and GreenLearning this
fall.
4. Doing the Math on GreenLearning
More than 2,000 teachers have registered with GreenLearning in the last two years, with both Ontario and British Columbia now approaching 500 registered
teachers in each province.
Our newest resources, eCards
and EnerAction, have had nearly 9,000 downloads
of classroom resources since they were launched just one year ago. That's about
25 downloads per day!
Visit www.greenlearning.ca to see our resources and take your teaching to the next level.
5. Register for Redfish School of Change
Developed in partnership with the University
of Victoria School of Environmental Studies and Pearson College, this
accredited experiential field school will deliver its first semester May 18–June
26, 2009 in southern British Columbia. If you know an aspiring young leader who is
19–29 years of age, encourage him or her to consider the Redfish School of Change.
