1. EnerAction Now Up and Running!

Carbon CritterBring energy conservation and efficiency projects to your Grades 4 to 7 classrooms with EnerAction. Eleven lesson plans, written by teachers for teachers, offer you a range of ways to make energy come to life in your classroom.

Try the new Carbon Calculator! This innovative and interactive web-based lighting activity is a great tool for students. In one lesson, students investigate the costs in energy and in greenhouse gases to light their classrooms. They then identify ways to save energy and track their success. Students work alongside the Carbon Critter whose footprints grow larger when they use a lot of energy, and shrink when they save.

5. eCards Greets Cape Farewell

In September, 12 students sailed aboard the Nooderlicht to the Arctic to study climate change and record their experiences in a variety of artistic media as part of the Cape Farewell project. Their research will be presented at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali, Indonesia in December 2007.

GreenLearning has teamed up with the Cape Farewell project to link students in schools across Canada with those aboard the Nooderlicht. In January 2008, we will have a complete eCards-Cape Farewell database of research papers, art projects, photographs, blogs and videos from the voyage and the U.N. conference. We are working with teachers to bring students of different grades and subjects this wealth of information so that they can conduct their own Arctic explorations. If you are interested, please contact Gordon Harrison.

6. Solar Oven Challenge

Solar OvenStudents continue to be amazed with the small-scale renewable models from Re-energy.ca! When students blow on the model wind turbine and see that there is enough electricity generated to light an LED light, the "WOW" is immediate and unanimous. Everyone wants a chance to blow on the turbine and see the power. Students are thrilled when their solar oven actually generates enough heat to cook brownies or a pizza! You can still take part in the 2007/08 Solar Oven Challenge. Register now while space is available. You have until May 31, 2008 to complete the challenge.

7. Students Calling Bali

Earth BallHow do your students feel about climate change? We are inviting students to share their opinions on climate change as our world leaders attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali, Indonesia, December 3-14, 2007. This is the 13th annual meeting of the Climate Change Conference of the Parties and the 3rd annual meeting of the Conference of the Members of the Kyoto Protocol (COP13/CMP3). A youth delegation that includes 30 Canadians—the Canadian Youth Delegation to Bali—will also participate.

Encourage your students to complete GreenLearning's short online survey about climate change. We will give a summary of their responses to one of the Canadian youth delegates. Schools with the most student survey responses will be entered in a draw to win an Earthball one metre in diameter.

A global call to action has been set for December 8, 2007 to urge world leaders to take immediate action on climate change. December 8th was chosen to coincide with the conference. To learn more about climate change and the U.N., see the background information in the Science and Policy section of GreenLearning's Climate Change Resource Centre.
